Specific Requirements
Smart Care® carpet maintenance system or an approved equal low-moisture agitation and crystallization carpet maintenance system.
Encapsulation chemistry for regular interim maintenance with Green Seal certification, WoolSafe certification, and the Carpet and Rug Institute Seal of Approval.
1. 1:20 dilution ratio for routine cleaning; 1:16 dilution ratio for heavy soil. The chemical solution is effective at a dispensing rate of 1 gallon per 1,000 square feet.
2. The carpets shall be dry in approximately 30 minutes after a single-pass cleaning, without using air movers or modifying the OSHA-recommended environment through the HVAC System.
3. The machine shall use two or three counter-rotating cylindrical brushes, 110mm in diameter, with polypropylene bristles. There are to be at least three different brush sets to accommodate different carpet constructions and/or levels of contamination.
4. The machine shall have a 10 amp internally mounted motor circuit protector.
5. The machine shall have an externally or internally mounted electric spray pump in an enclosure, 20psi, 120 volts with a flow rate of 22 oz./minute; delivery through a nozzle with an even flow spray pattern.
6. The machine shall have a 2-gallon onboard solution tank with an internal nylon filter.
7. The machine shall have a 12-, 15-, 20-, or 25-inch cleaning path.
8. The machine shall have a sealed brushless induction motor.
9. The machine shall have a height clearance of 9 inches to accommodate under-desk or counter cleaning.
10. The noise level shall not exceed 70 dB at the operator’s ear.
11. The machine shall have a 50-foot power cord and integrated transport wheels and be of industrial quality and strength.
12. Whittaker’s line of specialty spotters is preferred for use as daily spot/stain solutions. To be used according to instructions on each bottle.
13. If extraction or stain protection is required, use Whittaker’s CRYSTAL® QUICK RESTORE or CRYSTAL® STAIN BLOCK.
Procedures
Daily: Vacuum and spot clean as necessary
Lightly Soiled Areas
- Mix CRYSTAL DRY® EXTRA in the sprayer according to the instructions on the bottle.
- Pull the electric sprayer trigger on the first forward pass as you operate the machine. Overlap each pass slightly. A maximum of two passes is typically required.
- Allow the carpet to dry, then vacuum. This step can wait until the next scheduled vacuum cycle.
Moderately Soiled Areas
- Mix CRYSTAL DRY® EXTRA in the sprayer according to the instructions on the bottle.
- Pull the electric sprayer trigger on each forward pass as you operate the machine. Operate the machine in a north-to-south direction and then perpendicular to that in an east-to-west direction.
- Allow the carpet to dry, then vacuum. This step can wait until the next scheduled vacuum cycle.
Heavily Soiled Areas
- Add two (2) gallons of water to the sprayer tank.
- Add two (2) bottles of CRYSTAL® QUICK RESTORE.
- Pull the electric sprayer trigger on each forward pass as you operate the machine. Operate the machine in a north-to-south direction and then perpendicular to that in an east-to-west direction. Repeat as necessary.
- Allow the carpet to dry, then vacuum. This step can wait until the next scheduled vacuum cycle.
