One of the most common questions we get from new customers is some version of: “I have all this chemistry. How do I know which one to use and when?”
It is a fair question. When you are looking at Crystal® Dry Extra, Crystal® Quick Restore, and a lineup of spotters, it can feel like a lot of products for one program. But each one has a specific job, and once you understand the job, the decision becomes straightforward.
Here is how to think about it.
Your Maintenance Chemistry: Crystal® Dry Extra
Crystal® Dry Extra is the engine of your day-to-day program. It works by encapsulating soil particles in a crystalline structure that releases during your next vacuum pass, which is why consistent vacuuming is part of the program, not optional.
The result is a low-moisture clean that does not require downtime, does not wick, and lets you clean during the day in front of people without pulling equipment rooms apart.
Dilution matters more than most teams realize. The correct ratio is 6oz to 1 gallon of water, or one full 12oz bottle to 2 gallons. Too little chemistry means the polymer-to-soil ratio is off, encapsulation is incomplete, and you will not get the result the chemistry was designed to deliver. Our premeasured concentrate format is designed to prevent the guesswork so just use the full bottle.
Your Restore Chemistry: Crystal® Quick Restore
Crystal® Quick Restore is an encapsulant formulated to go deeper than your routine maintenance pass. It is designed to break down embedded soil and buildup that Crystal® Dry Extra alone is not reaching. Think of it as resetting the baseline so your maintenance program can do its job effectively again.
Here is the honest truth about timing: those worn-looking traffic patterns are not just soil. They are visible damage to the carpet. If you wait until you can see it, you are most likely not going to fully restore the appearance – you get a visual improvement until pile direction and light reflection reveal the wear again. Crystal® Quick Restore is most effective as a periodic reset before you reach that point.
A good signal that it is time: routine maintenance passes are taking more effort to produce the same result. High-traffic areas are soiling faster. That is what Crystal® Quick Restore is designed to address.
After a Crystal® Quick Restore pass, follow up with Crystal® Stain Block using the TRIO system before returning to your maintenance schedule. Note: Crystal® Stain Block is not compatible with Crystal® Quick Restore and should not be used in an extractor. It is a separate step run through the TRIO after the restorative clean.
Your Spotters: Crystal Spotter® and the Specialty Line
When to use them: Between scheduled maintenance passes, whenever a spot appears. Do not let spots set. A well-run program means you are dealing with spots, not stains and timing is everything. Left long enough, a spot sets to a stain, and that is a different problem.
Crystal Spotter® is your first line of defense. Reach for it first on any new spot. When Crystal Spotter® alone is not enough, or when you know the soil type going in, that is when you reach for a Specialty Spotter.
Crystal® Red Stain Plus handles stubborn coffee, tea, wine, and red food-dye stains. These are tannin and dye-based spots that need a targeted approach.
Crystal® Oil and Grease is formulated for food grease, cooking oil, and petroleum-based residue.
Crystal® Organic Stain (formerly Crystal® Odor and Protein) addresses organic spots including blood, urine, vomit, and food proteins using a formula that breaks down the organic matter rather than just treating the surface.
The protocol in every case: specialty spotter for the soil type, finish with Crystal Spotter® to encapsulate. Trying to treat every spot with one product or skipping the Crystal Spotter® finish is one of the most common reasons spotting does not produce a lasting result.
Putting It Together
The full program looks like this:
Regular maintenance with Crystal® Dry Extra keeps carpets clean between deeper work. Periodic Crystal® Quick Restore passes reset high-traffic areas and new accounts for a reset before maintenance cleans. Spotters address what shows up between scheduled cleans, with Crystal Spotter® finishing every application.
Each product has a specific job. None of them replace the others. Used together as a system, they are what separates a carpet program that just gets by from one that actually protects the asset.
